The strong and encouraging presence of women in decision-making bodies has drawn the attention of members of TLP-Gabon. With financial support from the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Gabon and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), they organized a workshop for reflection and experience-sharing this Friday, June 5, 2026, in Libreville, on the theme: “Women’s leadership at the heart of political, economic and social change in Gabon.”

The panel featured committed female figures: Justine Lékogo (Member of Parliament for the 2nd district of Franceville), Amélie Garcia Médza Mba (President of the Gabon Cooperative Network), Annie Mbogha (magistrate), and Macy Ilema (artist).

Women must take their place…

The speakers shared their experiences and perspectives, highlighting the central role of women in Gabon’s social and economic transformation. For Justine Lékogo, economic independence is a key condition for women’s empowerment. She encouraged women to create wealth and fully assert themselves in society. “Women must take their place and make their voices heard,” she stressed, calling for vigilance against influences that may hinder their independence.

For her part, Amélie Garcia Médza Mba emphasized the importance of self-awareness and female entrepreneurship: “A woman must understand her potential, and once she discovers it, she must bring it to light,” she advised.

Taking the floor, TLP-Gabon coordinator Blanche Simonny strongly reminded the audience that women should no longer remain on the sidelines of decision-making processes. She highlighted the need to create more spaces for expression and opportunities for women, enabling them to fully contribute to the development of Gabonese society. According to her, it is essential that women “assert their skills so that society can evolve positively,” by strengthening their visibility in leadership and governance spheres.

Engaged and inspired participants

Participants also discussed the importance of strengthening solidarity among women and building a structured support network. One of the main recommendations from the workshop was the creation of a national directory of women’s skills, aimed at facilitating the identification of qualified women for leadership positions.

For Falaya Milingou, one of the participants, the workshop was a true source of inspiration: “These events are essential to motivate women and remind them that they must be represented at all levels of society,” she said.
