On Thursday, September 10, 2026 in N'Djamena, Tournons La Page Tchad (TLP-Chad) organized a meeting of exchanges and mobilization bringing together women leaders and representatives of associations. The initiative aimed to strengthen their active participation in civic life and to bring out concrete courses of action for an increased involvement of women in decision-making spaces.

The exchanges offered a space for dialogue, listening and sharing experiences around the place and role of women in civic life. They also allowed the participants to share their experiences and identify the difficulties that continue to limit their engagement in public affairs.

During the discussions, several obstacles were noted: lack of information, socio-cultural constraints, the low representation of women in decision-making spaces as well as difficulties related to citizen engagement.

These various factors are all challenges to be met to enable women to participate fully in the life of their communities and in the decision-making process.

From observations to proposals for action

The participants did not limit themselves to taking stock of the situation. They also made several recommendations aimed at sustainably strengthening women's involvement in civic life.

Among the main avenues proposed are the strengthening of women's leadership capacities, as well as the continuation of advocacy actions on the obstacles to their civic participation.

The participants also proposed the creation of a network of women leaders committed to working alongside TLP-Chad, as well as the organization of regular meetings to share experiences, strengthen links between organizations and develop common initiatives.

Particular attention was paid to women living outside the capital. The participants therefore recommend continuing awareness-raising activities in the provinces in order to collect and document women's concerns and to advocate on the main obstacles they face.

Strengthening women's participation in communities

The recommendations also focus on supporting rural women, particularly through support for income-generating activities. The participants also propose the establishment of women's groups in the provinces capable of carrying out community initiatives, particularly around issues related to climate change.

In N'Djamena and in the country's main cities, they also advocate the designation of women's focal points in Chad's districts and major cities in order to facilitate mobilization, the circulation of information and the monitoring of initiatives.

These proposals reflect a desire to strengthen women's capacities for action at different levels, from local communities to decision-making spaces.

For TLP-Chad, women's civic participation cannot be limited to speeches or declarations of intent. It must be built within communities, organizations and in the spaces where decisions are made.
